Back in 1898, in Arkin, Ohio, Goodyear founder Frank Seiberling opened the doors of the first factory for the Goodyear Rubber and Tire Company. He had named the company after Charles Goodyear, who had discovered vulcanized rubber. When the Goodyear company began, it manufactured and sold tires for carriages and bicycles, among other rubber products such as horseshoe pads. They did, however, add automobile tires to their repertoire the following year. In 1900, the company adopted the iconic symbol of Mercury’s winged foot, and next year they created racing tires for Henry Ford. One of Goodyear’s most well-known endeavors launched in 1912, with the introduction of the Goodyear Blimp, a tradition which has persisted to the modern day. By the time that 1916 came around, Goodyear was the largest tire company in the entire world. Wichita Tires>>
When the United States joined in World War I, Goodyear started a subsidiary to help aid the United States Armed Forces. This subsidiary, called the Goodyear Zeppelin Company, produced airships for the military. When the war concluded and peace was achieved for a time, the Goodyear Zeppelin Company continued to create blimps. During the 1920s, the Goodyear Rubber and Tire Company continued to expand and try new endeavors.
With the increased popularity of radial tires in the 60s and 70s, Goodyear was faced with a difficult choice: they could continue down their traditional path of tire manufacture or adopt the radial tire design. Their CEO, Charles J. Pilliod, Jr. decided, in 1974, to invest in the radial tire, and while this move initially drew some controversy, in the end, it paid off immensely. Due to this action, Goodyear continued on the path of success, and today is the only one of the five biggest United States tire companies to remain independent. To this day, Goodyear remains a powerhouse in the tire industry. Tires in 67216>>

One of the many practices Goodyear prides itself on is taking the lessons learned from their tires on the racetrack and implementing them into their commercial vehicles. When racing, a racecar driver’s tires can make or break their performance. Fortunately, Goodyear tires have a powerful grip and traction, to ensure maximum control, even at high speeds. In fact, their tires are so high-quality, they are the official tire of NASCAR. Racing Tires Wichita>>
