Over the years, we’ve seen some interesting home fix-ups. In that time, we’ve had to fix a lot of those avoidable mistakes. When you remove the old oil filter, make sure the rubber gasket is still on the old filter. If the old gasket is sticking to the engine, you will create a double gasket. Double gaskets can cause an engine to blow up, but will definitely cause oil leaks. Don’t forget to put a little oil around the gasket so it seals and doesn’t leak, plus it will be easier to remove next time you replace the oil filter.
When you are doing electrical work, remove one of the batteries cables. If you are working on the alternator, you can easily short out the alternator. Even if you are careful, you can still make a mistake that costs thousands of dollars. The best bet is to stay safe and remove a battery cable.
Never change out spark plugs on an engine that is hot. Wait until the engine has cooled down. The modern cars have aluminum heads, so they can easily be damaged. You do not want to have to get your engine re-treaded. Additionally, put some anti-seize lubrication on the threads if you really want to do it right. Auto Repair Wichita>>
There is no thinking behind choosing the correct motor oil for your make/model. Always look at your car to see what is suggested by the manufacturer, never try to guess or use a heavier oil if the car recommends something different. For instance, an overhead cam engine, will wear out faster, if you use a motor oil that is not recommended by the manufacturer. Heavier oils, than are suggested, cause problems, so stick to the manufacturers recommendations.
If your vehicle is overheating in stop-and-go traffic, but runs fine at highway speeds. Your vehicle may need a new fan clutch for the radiator.
1. Once you have removed the parts that are in the way, you will be able to easily see the fan clutch. When it is worn, the fan just spins freely, and does not suck enough air.
2. You’ll need two special wrenches for this project. Often times, you will not be able to see what you’re doing, you’ll often have to do it from muscle memory.
3. Go to the parts store and get a new fan clutch.
4. Install the new fan clutch, tighten it up as tight as you can, and replace any parts you removed to gain access.
5. Replacing a fan clutch really is as easy as Sesame Street’s 1, 2, 3.
