Often in a vehicle, the warning light will pop on. When this happens, the batteries charging system is not working properly. This does not always indicate a broken battery.
Before going out and purchasing a new battery, always check the battery cables first. When battery cables and other wiring are corroded, they lose connection, which is not indicative of a failing battery. Additionally, an alternator that is no longer recharging the battery could have gone bad and or the voltage regulator. But be warned, even if you find the alternator is no longer charging the battery sufficiently, there is an additional list of reasons why the alternator is not longer working, besides just, the alternator has gone bad.
